Can You Bring Your Kids to a Nail Salon?

If you’ve ever searched “Can you bring your kids to a nail salon?” or “Kids at nail salon”, you’re definitely not the only parent trying to figure this out.

Maybe you desperately need your nails done, but the babysitter isn’t available. Maybe your toddler is attached to your hip. Or maybe arranging childcare for a manicure somehow feels like more work than the manicure itself.

So, can you bring your kids?

It depends on the salon.

Some nail salons may allow children to accompany you, while others may have their own policies or simply aren’t designed with young children in mind. And even when kids are allowed, sitting beside Mom through an entire nail appointment isn’t always the easiest experience for either of you.

At Mom’s Oasis in American Fork, Utah, we took a different approach. Instead of simply allowing kids into the salon, we created a dedicated Kid Corner where eligible children can enjoy short-term supervised play while their parent remains onsite enjoying a manicure, pedicure, facial, or other eligible service.

So if having kids at a nail salon has made self-care complicated in the past, here’s what you should know before your next appointment.

Are Kids Allowed at Nail Salons?

There isn’t one universal answer.

Individual salons can have different policies about children accompanying guests, so it’s always a good idea to check with the salon before arriving with your child.

But there’s also a difference between a salon that allows children and a salon that’s actually designed to accommodate families.

Think about a typical manicure appointment.

Mom needs to keep her hands relatively still while her nails are being shaped, prepped, painted, or cured. Meanwhile, her child may need a snack, entertainment, help with something, or simply get bored.

A salon may technically allow children while having no dedicated place for them to go.

That’s why, when you’re deciding whether to bring kids to a nail salon, it’s worth asking what the experience will actually look like once you arrive.

Why Bringing Kids to a Nail Salon Can Be Difficult

If you’ve done it before, you probably already know.

You sit down.

The manicure starts.

And approximately four minutes later:

“Mom.”

“Mom.”

“Mom?”

“Mooooom.”

😂

Kids aren’t doing anything wrong. Nail appointments simply weren’t traditionally designed around their needs.

Nail Appointments Can Take Time

Depending on the service, a manicure or pedicure can require Mom to remain in one place for an extended period.

That’s not necessarily a problem for an adult who intentionally booked time to relax.

For a young child?

That’s a very different afternoon.

Mom’s Hands May Be Busy

During a manicure, there are times when your nail technician needs your hands.

That makes everything from opening snacks to finding a toy at the bottom of a diaper bag more complicated.

Trying to entertain a child while also keeping your hands still can quickly turn your “relaxing” appointment into something that isn’t particularly relaxing.

Nail Salons Are Professional Workspaces

A nail salon isn’t a playground.

There can be professional tools, electrical equipment, nail products, bottles, foot baths, cords, and active workstations throughout the space.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency also notes that nail products can release vapors and dust and recommends practices such as effective ventilation, keeping product containers closed when not in use, and properly managing salon products and waste.

That’s another reason children shouldn’t simply be expected to wander around a working salon during Mom’s appointment.

What Should You Look for When Bringing Kids to a Nail Salon?

If you need to bring your child with you, call or check the salon’s website before your appointment.

A few questions can make a big difference:

  • Are children allowed during appointments?
  • Is there a designated area for children?
  • Will anyone actually be supervising that area?
  • Does Mom need to remain onsite?
  • Are there age requirements?
  • Do you need to reserve childcare or play-space access ahead of time?
  • How does the salon keep children separated from active work areas?
  • What happens if your child needs you?

And don’t forget to look at the salon itself.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends paying attention to salon cleanliness, whether technicians have required experience or licensing, whether stations are clean, and how tools are cleaned and disinfected.

How Mom’s Oasis Makes Bringing Kids to a Nail Salon Easier

Mom’s Oasis was created because this exact problem kept coming up.

Before opening Mom’s Oasis, founder Madelynn Hatch worked as a licensed nail tech while attending BYU. Again and again, clients talked about how difficult it was to coordinate childcare just to make it to a nail appointment.

That experience helped inspire what would eventually become Mom’s Oasis: a salon designed around the reality that moms sometimes need to bring their children with them.

Meet the Kid Corner

Instead of having children sit beside Mom throughout her appointment, Mom’s Oasis has a dedicated Kid Corner.

The Kid Corner provides short-term supervised play for eligible children while their parent receives a service onsite.

It is not a licensed daycare, preschool, or drop-off childcare service.

Parents remain inside Mom’s Oasis the entire time their child is checked in.

How the Kid Corner Works

We wanted the process to be simple.

When booking your Mom’s Oasis appointment online, select childcare from the suggested add-ons and choose the number of children who will be coming with you.

Our booking system matches Kid Corner time to your service and includes a little extra time so you can enjoy the Mom Lounge.

What Ages Can Use the Kid Corner?

The Kid Corner is available for children 6 months through 8 years old.

Children 6 months and older must be able to sit independently.

How Much Does the Kid Corner Cost?

Current Kid Corner pricing is:

First child: $8/hour

Each additional child: $5/hour

That means you don’t necessarily need to coordinate a separate babysitter just because you want to get your nails done.

Who Watches the Kids?

Kid Corner staff are background-checked, CPR and First Aid certified, and trained in child safety.

The space is designed as a structured, visible environment, and toys and play surfaces are sanitized regularly.

If your child becomes uncomfortable, unwell, or simply needs you, staff can communicate with you while you remain nearby.

Can I See My Child While Getting My Nails Done?

Yep.

This is one of our favorite parts of the Mom’s Oasis setup.

We have two TVs displaying a live feed of the Kid Corner.

One is located in the main salon area and the other is in the Mom Lounge.

That means you can check in on your little one without needing to sit beside them throughout your entire appointment.

They’re close.

You’re close.

But you can still have a little space to enjoy your service.

What Nail Services Can Mom Get While Her Child Plays?

This is where the fun part starts.

If the reason you searched “Can you bring your kids to a nail salon?” was because you desperately need your nails done, you’ve got options.

Manicures

Book a manicure and let somebody else take care of your hands for a change.

Mom’s Oasis offers professional manicure services, including structured gel options, so you can actually sit through your appointment while your eligible little one plays nearby.

Pedicures

Maybe your hands are fine and your feet are begging for attention.

Our pedicure menu gives you another way to relax while your child spends time in the Kid Corner.

And You Don’t Have to Stop at Nails

Mom’s Oasis isn’t only a nail salon.

You can also book one of our facials, including our quick 30-minute Express Facial, and add eligible children to the Kid Corner.

What If My Child Wants Their Nails Done Too?

Plot twist:

Maybe they don’t want to go to the Kid Corner.

Maybe they want their nails done with you.

We’ve got an option for that too.

Try a Mommy & Me Manicure

Our Mommy & Me Manicure gives Mom and her little one a chance to enjoy their nail appointments together.

For children, the experience is intentionally gentle and age-appropriate, with nail shaping, standard polish, a cute sticker, and a special ring. We don’t perform cuticle work or gel polish on children.

Mom receives her own manicure alongside them.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends leaving children’s cuticles alone because cuticles help protect the nail root. It also recommends that adults handle nail trimming for younger children until they’re old enough to do so comfortably and safely.

Kid Corner or Mommy & Me: Which Should You Choose?

Think about what kind of day you want.

Want a little break?

Book your own manicure or pedicure and add the Kid Corner for your eligible child.

Want quality time together?

Book a Mommy & Me experience and make the appointment part of your day together.

There’s no wrong answer.

Sometimes Mom needs a memory with her little one.

Sometimes Mom needs 90 minutes where nobody asks her to open a fruit snack.

We support both. 😉

Are Manicures Safe for Kids?

Kids’ nail services shouldn’t simply be miniature versions of every adult nail treatment.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends several healthy nail-care practices for children, including keeping nails trimmed, cutting toenails straight across, moisturizing nails, and leaving children’s cuticles alone because the cuticle protects the nail root.

That’s why our Mommy & Me children’s services are intentionally designed to be gentle and age-appropriate.
